Tv on the Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes

Tv on the Radio are a trio from the Bronx area of New York. Their album "Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes" was released in 2004 and has many fans waiting for their new album which will be released later this year. This intelligent electro funk fused with post punk sound is a fresh listen for most viewers. Mild comparisons to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been made but that can only go so far. This could be because of mutual friendships and collaborations between the two bands. The band is known for their atmospheric, ambient music and amazing lyrics that flow through the songs. The album features the song "Staring at the Sun" from an earlier EP. Highlights of the album include the songs Dreams, Don't Love You, Staring at the Sun, and Wear You Out.

Dog Fashion Disco--Adultery

Well the new Dog Fashion Disco album "Adultery" arrived today and gave me the feeling that every first listen to DFD does...confusion. Just as the first listen is to most DFD material i was confused to see that their music took some different angles, but then again this is exactly what the band is about. The first noticeable stlyle change of the album is a deeper use of keyboard and synth sounds. It seems closer to the usage in "Anarchists of Good Taste." The disc has far less of a metal sound than there previous works, but at the same time has much more serious sound than there last album "Committed to a Bright Future." As usual vocalist Todd Smith uses a wide range of vocal styles and even more singing melodies which compliment the eerie sounds of the music. Not to spoil the surprise but there is a western sounding acoustic song titled "Desert Grave." Try and think Fear and Loathing meets Big Lebowski with a banjo and acoustic guitar. As usual DFD have taken various musical risks on the album, and for the DFD fan it should be expected and will still be enjoyed. Sadly i still do not see much mainstream popularity possible from this release. This is highly depressing because this is a band that works very hard for what they have accomplished and no one can deny that they deserve more credit. I read that the band considered this album to be "Movie Metal" and it is a great description. The tone of every song easily depicts an early 80's or late 70's drama or horror. At times it almost sounds like alternate theme songs for the Adam West version of the Batman series. These are all compliments by the way.
